Toffu can be a contact in your phone. You message it like a colleague, it replies in the same thread. Same agent as the web app, same memory, same integrations.

Connect your WhatsApp

There are two ways. Pick the easier one.

Option A — one-tap connect (recommended)

  1. Open Integrations (or the WhatsApp connect page).
  2. Click Connect WhatsApp. Toffu generates a one-time code and opens WhatsApp pre-filled with a message that looks like:
    Hey Toffu! My code is: A7UFMG
  3. Send the message from the phone you want linked. The link is done as soon as Toffu receives it.

The code expires in 15 minutes. If you wait too long, click Connect WhatsApp again to get a fresh one.

Option B — enter your phone first

If your phone is already saved on your Toffu profile, you can skip the code:

  1. Open Settings → user preferences modal.
  2. Type your full number into the WhatsApp field (e.g. +15551234567). Save.
  3. Click Message Toffu. WhatsApp opens with Hey Toffu! prefilled. Send it.

Toffu replies. You're connected.

The 24-hour rule

WhatsApp's business policy: Toffu can only send free-form messages within 24 hours of your last message to it.

  • Inside the window (you messaged Toffu in the last 24 hours): Toffu replies normally, including reports, charts, and follow-ups.
  • Outside the window: Toffu can only send pre-approved templates. That's a Meta restriction, not a Toffu one.

What this means in practice:

  • A scheduled task that finishes 36 hours after your last WhatsApp message will fall back to Slack or email instead of WhatsApp.
  • If you ask Toffu to "ping me on WhatsApp tomorrow morning" and you don't message it again before then, it can't.
  • The fix is simple: send any message to Toffu and the window resets for the next 24 hours.

Common problems

"Toffu stopped replying to me on WhatsApp." You're probably outside the 24-hour window and a template wasn't a fit. Send any message ("hi", a single emoji, anything) to reopen the window, then resend your request.

"Toffu sent me a report link instead of the answer." Same root cause. Outside the window, Toffu can't send a long message, so it falls back to a link. Reopen the window and ask again to get the inline answer.

"My WhatsApp number changed." Open Settings → user preferences modal → clear the old number → save. Then run the one-tap connect again from the new phone.

"Toffu replied to a stranger who messaged the number." Unknown senders trigger the onboarding flow: Toffu asks for the email they signed up with, then sends a one-click linking email to verify. Nothing is linked until the email link is clicked.

What WhatsApp can do that the web app can't

Nothing functional. Same agent, same tools. Use WhatsApp when you're on your phone and the web app isn't open.
